Slenderpane can provide cylinder glass in its slim line double glazed units to provide an authentic look for historic and period property glass windows. Replacement slim double-glazed units for listed properties are important to create not only the correct visual appearance but also providing modern thermal attributes and yet fully comply with planning regulations.
The cylinder glass is made by a craftsman in the traditional method of blowing a bottle-shaped cylinder. Once the cylinder is ready it is cooled and the two ends are removed. The cylinder is then reheated and opened out to create a flat piece of glass with thickness between 2mm – 4mm.
Cylinder glass has a gently distorting reflection with small imperfections which give it a very distinctive character. Cylinder glass can bring beauty into your property, dispersing light unevenly and possessing a subtle tint that gives it a certain richness.
It traditionally was used as glass between the mid-18th Century and the end of 19th Century. Our glazed units come with the latest spacers and seals achieving outstanding thermal and acoustic ratings, whilst still looking authentic in historic period properties – grade 1 or 2 providing that “old world charm”.
